Welcome to MeråkerMeråker is a municipality in the County of Nord-Trøndelag. It borders Sweden to the east and the Norwegian municipalities of Stjørdal to the west, Verdal to the north, and Selbu and Tydal to the south. The village is 48 kilometres from Trondheim Airport at Værnes, located almost equal distance from the Norwegian city of Trondheim and the Swedish ski resort Åre. A majority of the municipality's 2,500 inhabitants live in or near the expanding municipal centre, but many also live in the villages of Kopperå and Gudå, and in the rural communities Stordalen, Teveldalen, Fersdalen, and Torsbjørkdalen.
Epic sceneryThe Municipality of Meråker covers 1,274 sq. kilometres, and most of this area is mountains, mountain plateaus, and forests. The mountains offer vast opportunities for hiking and skiing, with many marked trails and 26 peaks above 1000 metres. More than 300 lakes, tarns, and rivers offer great fishing for trout and charr.
The varied terrain is an Eldorado for small-game hunters, and a substantial moose population attracts countless moose hunters each fall. The Stjørdal River is renowned for its salmon fishing, and in Meråker, the salmon travels all the way up to Nustadfossen in Meråker municipal centre. |
